Who doesn’t love to enjoy a perfect stay during their travels?? And surely if you were staying at one of the largest private residences in the world, one would expect nothing but luxury. During our visit to Jodhpur, Rajasthan we had booked our stay at Umaid Bhawan Palace Hotel with the full intention of enjoying the Royal Rajasthan experience. From the traditional Rathore welcome to the checkout procedures, we were given the best possible service and it was by far one of the best hotels we have stayed during our travels.

Umaid Bhawan Palace is originally a palace built by the Maharaja Umaid Singhji as a way to provide employment to the locals of Jodhpur. Built during 1928 to 1943, the palace is designed in Art Deco Style by the famous architect Henry Lanchester and has an amazing blend of Indo Colonial architecture. The palace design is inspired from the Taj Mahal of Agra and the Angkor Wat Temple in Cambodia. The royal family currently resides in the right-wing of the palace and rest of the palace is converted into a luxury Hotel and is a part of Taj Group of Hotels.
Room:
The hotel is about 15 minutes from Jodhpur Airport and as we drove up the Chittar Hill we couldn’t contain our excitement. The minute our car stopped at the main porch of the hotel, the staff greeted us with the traditional drums and trumpets, marigold flower garland, vermilion tikkas and a chilled glass of Champagne. While we sipped our champagnes, the check-in formalities were smoothly done and much to our delight we were upgraded to the Historical Suite.

The staff then escorted us to our room, which was located at the first floor of the far left side of the palace. The room is exceptional in terms of class and elegance, decorated with paintings of the Royal family members and period furniture. The Historic Suite has an additional dining area and a small balcony with the view of the garden. The bedroom is artfully converted to fit modern facilities without losing the historic influence.
The attached bathroom comes with a spacious dressing area and wardrobe with all the amenities, rain shower cubicle and a large bathtub. The bathroom was spacious with ample of natural light from the large windows and had copious amount of toilet essentials from “Forest Essentials”.
Service
One thing everyone must look forward to during their stay at Umaid Bhawan Palace is the impeccable hospitality from the staff. They aim to provide the best service by giving attention to every minute details and try to cater to the needs of all its guests.

We loved the Heritage tour of the palace organized by the Hotel to its guests, which gave us a detailed insight into the history of the Palace and also an opportunity to admire the splendor and beauty of the place. The tour starts everyday at 5pm with champagne being served to everyone, taking us around various sections of the palace, which includes the courtyard of the right-wing of the palace where the Royal family resides.

The turn down service was another highlight of our stay, whereby we were served with the special Royal Heritage Liqueur made of exotic spices, herbs and dry fruits, delicious desserts and bowl of fresh fruits.

Dining
Risala

As mentioned in our earlier post on Jodhpur, Risala is one of the must try places for a fine dining experience in the Blue City. We had a late lunch here on the day we arrived in Jodhpur and also the breakfast for the duration of our stay. Risala provides one with the perfect opportunity to indulge your taste buds with the authentic Marwari cuisine that is savoured by the Royals.
Pillars

Pillars is a café set in the verandah on the rear side of the Palace with the beautiful view of the Baradari garden. It is a perfect place to relax and sip on some cocktails watching the sunset over the Blue city. As there was light shower during our stay it was a pleasant experience to dine in the open air and enjoy the lovely atmosphere.

Overall Experience

This was our first stay experience at the Taj Palace Hotels and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place to start with. Stay at Umaid Bhawan Palace Hotel is highly recommended if you want to experience the flavours of Royal Rajasthan. The courteous staff ensures that your treated like a Royal and have an unforgettable experience throughout the stay.
