A trip to Rajasthan is incomplete without savouring the delicious local food. If it wasn’t for the beautiful sights and adventures waiting to be explored in the Blue city, we would have happily spent our time in Jodhpur relishing all the yummy food it offered. Here is a list of top five must visit food spots in Jodhpur
1. Janta Sweet Home
Located midst the bustling market of Jodhpur, Janta Sweet Home provides a perfect break for all shoppers with its mouth-watering sweets and snacks. After spending two consecutive evenings hogging on their famous snacks: Mirchi Bada and Onion Kachoris (pastry with onion filling), we now know why this place is a favourite among the locals.

The Mirchi Bada is a popular street snack of the city, which is made of large green chili (Mirchi) with potato stuffing. If you are feeling bit adventurous, try to eat the entire bada along super spicy mirchi. And follow this with the delicious Mawa Kachoris (deep-fried sweet dish dipped in sugar syrup), definitely a blissful experience.

2. Gypsy Restaurant
The Gypsy Restaurant located at Sardarpura is a pure veg restaurant with ground floor serving fast food and first floor serving authentic Rajasthani Thalis. The thali is a best choice if you want to try different dishes in one go and it is best if you go empty stomach so that you can eat to your heart’s content. We loved the dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi and aloo sabzi and the desserts are just as delicious as the thali main course.

3. Risala at Umaid Bhavan Palace Hotel
The Indian fusion restaurant at the Umaid Bhavan Palace Hotel, Risala is a magical experience in itself serving authentic royal Marwari cuisine. We tried the Nagour Bharwan Aloo and Chakki ka Saag (wheatflour dumpling in yogurt tomato gravy) with freshly made rotis, both the dishes were perfectly done with rightful blend of local spices.

4. Shri Mishrilal Hotel
The Mishrilal Hotel (Café) near Ghanta Ghar is one place we would suggest everyone to visit while in Jodhpur. A favourite among the locals and tourists, the tiny café is neatly ensconced at the Sardar Market entrance. The trademark Makhaniya Lassi is a must have here apart from the Rabdi and Mawa Kachori.

The lassi is a delicious mixture of yogurt, cardamom, saffron and whipped butter and is one of the best lassis we have had so far!!
5. Indique at Pal Haveli Hotel
The Indique restaurant is one of the best restaurants in Jodhpur to enjoy candlelit dinner at the rooftop with the panoramic view of the Mehrangarh Fort in the background. The open-air restaurant in the 150-year-old haveli provides a perfect ambience with good food and great service.

After all the hogging we had to spend extra hours burning those calories once we were back home but it was all worth it :-).
I am a big fan of Rajasthani food and such authentic stuffs is making my mouth water. 🙂
