The beautiful valleys of Himachal Pradesh

I recently spent an amazing week at the enchanting valleys of Himachal Pradesh, India. Just thinking about the endless mountains ranges, and the lovely weather makes me want to pack my bags and visit the hills again. I was always fascinated about this part of India and thanks to my husband I was lucky enough to spend my birthday week at Himachal. A backpacker and adventure loverโ€™s paradise, Himachal offers stunning landscapes of the Himalayas, a range of adrenaline-inducing activities, making it a perfect holiday destination. In this post, I solely want to dedicate to all the beautiful valleys that make Himachal Pradesh so enchanting.

Chamba Valley

Chmba ValleyThe Chamba Valley is ensconced between three snowy mountain ranges, Dauladhar, Pir Pinjal and the Zanskar range. It is idyllic for trekkers and also for people looking forward to enjoying the nature and soak in the Himalayan beauty. A drive/walk through the dense deodars will take you along some really stunning scenery that will leave dreaming of moving to the hills.

Places to visit: Chamba, Dalhousie, Khajjiar

Kangra Valley

Be it the ever so peaceful Tibetan monasteries in Dharamshala or the ancient Rock Cut Temples of Masroor, a visit to Kangra Valley will be a spiritual rejuvenation like nothing else. The Dauladhar Range or famously known as the “White Mountains”, that separates the Chamba Valley from Kangra, provides a perfect backdrop with its snow-capped mountains surrounded by dreamy white clouds. Hone your yoga skills or trek up the steep mountains or just immerse yourself in the Tibetan culture, Kangra Valley has a little something to offer for every one of its travelers.

Places to visit: Dharamshala, Palampur, Bir-Billing

Spiti Valley

Famously known as the “Cold Desert Valley of Himachal”, Spiti Valley is one of the natureโ€™s best piece of work. Located in the North Eastern part of the Himachal, it stands as a border between India and Tibet. The rugged landscapes combined with one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in the world (Tabo Monastery) gives one enough reasons to pack their bags and visit one of the least populated places in the country :).

Places to visit: Lahaul, Kaza, Dhankar, Pin Valley, Kye Gompa

Kullu Valley

Home to Indiaโ€™s favorite honeymoon destination (Kullu and Manali), Kullu valley is located in the heart of Himachal. The dense pine and deodar forest, luscious apple orchards and the magnificent Beas River at the base of the valley makes it one of the prettiest places in the country. Also a famous destination among the adventure travelers and hippies, the Valley has gained a lot of attention over the years.

Places to visit: Kullu, Manali, Kasol, Parvati Valley, Solang

Sangla Valley (Kinnaur)

Although Sangla Valley is lesser known compared to the other valleys in the Himachal, the untouched beauty of the valleys is still something to covet on. Located in Kinnaur, the valley is also called as Baspa Valley as it rises from the River Baspa. The breath-taking combination of snow-capped mountains, Baspa River, rustic wooden houses, the apple and peach orchard beckons every nature lover. Also drive up to the tiny village of Chitkul, the last occupied village, near the India-China Border and enjoy the picturesque scenery.

Places to visit: Nako Lake, Kinnaur Kailash, Chitkul

They really are beautiful valleys. They remind me a lot of home actually. I am from Scotland and we live in a town in the valley of seven hills. It looks a lot like these pictures

The Spiti Valley looks so remarkably rugged and beautiful. I could imagine taking a trek there one day and really getting a feel for the region. Checking out the Tabo Monastery would be a great highlight for the trip.

Very stunning scenery. These valleys appeal so much to us because we are avid trekkers and mountaineers. In fact, one of our dreams is to hike the lower Himalayas and perhaps trek to Everest base camp. It would really be great to camp, climb, and go adventuring here.

  30. July 23, 2017

Wow, these places look amazing. I would love to visit Spiti Valley and all the other amazing spots you mentioned. I will bookmark this for my research of places in India that are worth visiting ๐Ÿ˜‰
