Weekend at Hilton Shillim Estate Retreat and Spa
Summers in Mumbai are always a stifling affair as you spend your days trying to vie your way through the bustling traffic, protecting yourselves from the glaring sun and praying for the monsoon to begin soon. When we came across some beautiful pictures of Hilton Shillim Estate Retreat and Spa, we found a perfect opportunity to plan a road trip to Lonavla. Lonavla is a small town famous for the scenic views of the Sahyadri Mountains and lovely weather.
Isolated from the human habitat, the resort in the Shillim Mountain, which is about 60 minutes drive from Lonavla town and is spread over 350 acres of land. The retreat is the answer to a blissful stay midst the nature and we couldn’t have been more satisfied as we drove through the winding roads with the beautiful Pawana Lake in view.
We reached the Resort around late noon and the staff performed the check in formalities very swiftly. After detailed information regarding the various facilities in the resort, they provided us with the itinerary of the activities that were organized during our stay. The staff then escorted us to our suite in one of the estate cars; there is fleet of Tata Nano cars that are used to take the guests around the resort premises.
We had booked a Deluxe Forest view villa, which is a spacious room with a comfy four-poster bed and a private balcony with the hills on the backdrop. The equally spacious bathroom had a large bathtub and rain shower facility. The best part of the resort is that all the villas are strategically located in various parts of the mountains so that the guests have enough privacy and also have an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
As much as we were happy with the space and location of our villa, we were quite disappointed with the limited amount of amenities provided. Being a spa retreat we had expected ample bathroom toiletries, however there was inadequate amount of items provided. Moreover, apart from two large bath towels, we were not provided with any kind of hand or face towels, which we must say is rather unusual.
The resort staffs are very efficient and extremely courteous, always ensuring their guests requirements are met. The Spa offers a wide range of modern and Ayurvedic treatments and also includes meditation and relaxation centers, helping all the guests to rejuvenate our mind, body and soul. We decided to indulge ourselves in one of the treatments and had a blissful experience in an hour-long full body massage.
Mountain Bar and Bistro
On our first evening in the resort, we headed to the Mountain Bar and Bistro to enjoy some cocktails and also watch the beautiful sight of the dusk falling over the mountains. It is a poolside bar that serves light food and a perfect place to relax and unwind.
Terrazzo is an all day dining restaurant where you can enjoy a leisurely meal of Indian and International cuisine. Do not forget to try their delicious mocktail “shammomile”, which is a delicious mixture of chamomile tea cocktail and lime juice.
Hilton Shillim Estate Retreat and Spa is a perfect example for an idyllic stay midst the nature and we loved every minute of our stay here. It was a perfect place for us to getaway from the scorching heat of Mumbai and spend a relaxing weekend. Tucked between the mountains, the resort is an ideal location for families and friends to experience the natural and untouched beauty of the Sahyadris in a luxurious way.
